Ernakulam: The Aluva Rural SP, Vivek Kumar, informed that Asfaq, the accused in the kidnapping and murder of five-year-old girl, has confessed to the crime. Asfaq Alam is a migrant worker from Assam.

The SP said that Asfaq’s earlier statement that he had handed the child over to another person was a ploy to derail the investigation. The police have intensified their investigation centered on Asfaq.

Rural SP, Vivek Kumar, said that the Asfaq himself showed us the dead body. At the time of the incident, he was in inebriated state. The motive of the murder is yet to be ascertained and nothing can be said without getting the postmortem report. The crime was committed by Asfaq, said the police officer.

The local people living in the area surrounded the police and the Asfaq and protested, when he was brought for evidence collection. The police team had to return with the accused taking into consideration the mob’s anger.

The victim was the daughter of a Bihari couple. She was kidnapped by Asfaq at 3 pm yesterday. She was taken after giving her some juice. The police had recovered CCTV visuals of the accused taking the child away. Following this, the police took the accused into custody last night itself.

A massive search was launched at several places in Perumbavoor and another area for the child. However, after 21 hours of intense search, the lifeless body of the child was recovered from a muddy area at the Aluva market near the Periyar river, according to reports.
