THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president, K Surendran, has strongly criticized the state government’s delayed intervention, warning that it will plunge Onam into poverty. He pointed out that over the past two months, prices have been escalating drastically in the state, but the government has failed to implement any regulatory measures to address the issue.
Prices of groceries and vegetables in Kerala are going up, and it’s worrying because the state government isn’t doing much to control the situation.
The continuous price hike is predicted to remain unchecked during the upcoming Onam festival.
The government’s promise to curb the price surge and intervene in the market appears to be ineffective, as the situation remains unchanged.
Even the Kerala State Horticultural Products Development Corporation (Horticorp) has only engaged in preliminary discussions about supplying vegetables at lower prices, with no concrete actions taken yet.
As prices of vegetables and groceries continue to rise daily, consumers are grappling with the challenging situation, facing reports of price increases ranging from Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 in retail shops. Additionally, there have been complaints against certain supermarkets for selling products with price hikes of Rs. 10 to Rs. 12.
K Surendran stressed that the government must promptly address this matter and take necessary actions to alleviate the burden on the people of Kerala.
Immediate intervention is required to mitigate the impact of the price rise and ensure a smoother festive season during Onam.
