Thiruvananthapuram: A woman was arrested after she tried to snatch a golden necklace from a beauty parlor employee at Nedumangad in Thiruvananthapuram. The accused, Malini (46), wore a face covering burqa and used chili powder to commit the crime.
The incident happened on Saturday at the Blueberry beauty parlor situated in front of Nedumangad Girls High School. The accused arrived at the beauty parlor wearing a full body covering burqa. Only her eyes were visible. She asked the employee for a threading and after the service was done, Malini told the employee that the cash is with her sister-in-law and had to wait till she arrives.
Meanwhile, the accused also checked the golden necklace worn by one of the employee, Sreekutty and confirmed that it was gold. At 2 pm when Sreekutty was alone at the beauty parlor, the accused threw chili powder on her face and snatched the golden necklace and tried to flee.
Sreekutty cried out after she was attacked and broke the front glass of the parlor and got out. She called out for help which alerted other shopkeepers and people. They rushed to the spot and detained Malini from escaping. The accused was then taken to Nedumangad police station.
