Palakkad: Muhammed Muhsin, MLA from Pattambi, resigned from the district council of the Communist Party of India(CPI). In his resignation letter, the MLA said that he was resigning in protest against the party’s unilateral decision. Following his resignation, 15 members of the district committee also tendered their resignations in support of the MLA.
Earlier, many CPI local leaders had resigned from the Pattambi mandalam committee against the disciplinary action taken against Muhsin by the communist party.
Meanwhile, the District Executive Committee will hold a discussion about the resignation. There is a possibility that more disciplinary actions against Muhammed Muhsin is on the anvil. The MLA was earlier demoted from the Executive Committee for indulging in dissident activities.
Earlier, on the basis of the party commission report that had investigated the dissident activities, Muhammed Muhsin was demoted to the district committee. In addition, the Pattambi Mandalam Secretary, Subash, and District Committee Member, Ramakrishnan, were also demoted to the branch commmittee.
They were demoted as part of disciplinary action for pointing out the corruption of the CPI District Secretary, who happens to be close to the CPI State Secretary, Kanam Rajendran.
Currently, the supporters of Kanam Rajendran hold a strong position in the Palakkad district committee. The action was taken against Muhammed Muhsin mainly because he did not belong to the Kanam group in the party.
Muhammed Muhsin won the Pattambi constituency on CPI ticket in 2016. He is a research scholar from Jawaharlal Nehru University and was the Vice President of AISF at JNU.
