Thiruvananthapuram: The Nair Service Society (NSS) has decided to protest against the Speaker, AN Shamseer, on the streets for insulting Lord Ganapathi. The NSS had demanded the resignation of the Speaker for insulting Hindu beliefs.
The CPI(M) party had mocked the NSS for demanding Shamseer’s resignation. The State Secretary of CPI(M), MV Govindan, said that what AN Shamseer told was scientific and not to mix myth with history. He also added that there was no need for Shamseer to give an apology for insulting Hindu beliefs.
CPI(M) Central Committee member, AK Balan, said that NSS is talking in the same voice as the Sangh Parivar.
Following these criticisms against the NSS, the organization decided to take its protest to the next level.
The NSS had on the other day said that AN Shamseer was not suitable to continue in the position of Speaker of the house and demanded that the government must take action if he did not resign.
The General Secretary of NSS, G Sukumaran Nair, in his press statement had demanded the resignation of the Speaker.
Sukumaran Nair, in his statement, said that Shamseer’s words had crossed the limits and no one has the authority to question the belief systems. Actions taken by anyone that create communal rift will not be accepted. Shamseer has no eligibility to continue in the post of Speaker. Sukumaran Nair demanded that Shamseer withdraw his statement and tender an apology to the Hindu community.
The Speaker, AN Shamseer, in a speech said that Hindu beliefs and Puranas were myths. He made reference to Lord Ganesha and dubbed it as myth and said that these stories and myths hold back progress in society. He was speaking about the importance of scientific temper when he insulted Hindu beliefs and Lord Ganesha.
Interestingly, the Speaker avoided making any reference to other religions or their beliefs and myths. His words were targeted against Hindu beliefs only. This triggered a huge backlash from the Hindu community.
