THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A man who committed fraud under the guise of health insurance has been apprehended by the Vaikom Police. Sherin S Thomas, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram, was arrested in connection with the case.
The accused targeted a housewife from Alappuzha and deceived her by claiming that her Andhra Bank account would be ported to Union Bank due to the bank’s merger. He further convinced her to pay a premium of Rs 32,664 per annum for Rs 5 lakh policy.
Despite the woman’s payment, the accused failed to fulfill his end of the deal, leaving her with doubts. To deceive her further, he fraudulently added her name to an expired policy number.
Realizing the deceit, the woman approached the bank and discovered that the policy was fake. Subsequently, she lodged a complaint with the police.
Following the complaint, the Vaikom police initiated an investigation, led by district police chief K Karthik, which eventually led to the arrest of the accused.
The investigation team is now delving into the possibility that the perpetrator may have defrauded others using similar tactics.
