THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The renowned percussionist and music director, IM Shakir (62), has passed away.
As an independent music director, Shakir made significant contributions to the film industry. He composed music for the acclaimed movie ‘Valathoth Thirithal Naama Veedu’.
Apart from his work in films, Shakir also released numerous albums, showcasing his talent in creating romantic songs and Bhakti-Mapila songs.
He collaborated with the renowned keyboardist Jackson Arujayotop, under the name Shakir Jackson, to compose songs for popular films like ‘Jagati and Jagadish in Town’, ‘House Honor’, and ‘Svarnamedal’.
Shakir’s musical journey extended beyond films, as he actively participated singing in festivals alongside famous playback singers. Notably, he was a valued member of Yesudas’ singing troupe for an impressive 12 consecutive years, starting from 1980.
Shakir’s younger brother, Ansar, is also a well-known playback singer.
His wives are Rahda, Soudha and his children are Husna, Farzana, Sithara, Azeema, and Abdul Hakkim., Muhammad Shiraz is his son-in-law.
The burial ceremony will be held on Friday at 10 am.
