THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested yet another individual in connection with the IS terror case in Kerala. The apprehended individual has been identified as Shiyas Siddique, a resident of Kattoor in the Thrissur district. This marks the third arrest in this ongoing case.
Shiyas Siddique was presented before the NIA court situated in Kochi and subsequently remanded for one month. The search for Nabeel, the second accused involved in the case, remains in progress.
The prime accused in this case, Ashif, hailing from Thrissur, was arrested from the Sathyamangalam forest area. Notably, Nabeel was a member of the group responsible for engaging in terrorist recruitment activities, while Ashif was implicated in plotting robberies to generate funds for supporting acts of terrorism. Shiyas Siddique also played an active role alongside Nabeel and Ashif in these activities.
The scope of the investigation has widened, with over 30 individuals currently under NIA surveillance. This group includes those who planned the bomb explosions and communicated through covert media platforms.
Following the arrest of the first accused, Ashif, the NIA received crucial details about other fugitive terrorists. Ashif revealed that there are terrorism training units present in all districts of Kerala.
Numerous associates closely linked to the accused have been summoned to the NIA office in Kochi for interrogation. As the investigation intensifies, more arrests are anticipated in the days ahead.
