Petrol contamination identified in a well at a house in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If petrol could be drawn from our home well like water, even if it brings profits, the certainty remains that the availability of drinking water would become arduous.

Sukumaran and his family in Venjaramoodu are facing such a challenging situation where the access to drinking water has come to a halt.
Sukumaran scoops liters of petrol from the well within his house compound.
For the past two weeks, the household has turned to piped water for drinking due to the altered taste of the well water. Sukumaran explained that just two days ago, when the smell of petrol began emanating from the well, he observed a distinct change in its color.

A petrol station is located about 300 meters away on the opposite side of the house. Yesterday, officials from the petrol station visited the well. Suspecting that the fuel storage tank at the petrol pump might have leaked, they advised Sukumaran to temporarily close the well. Subsequently, arrangements were made to provide clean water to the family.

The authorities are conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine how the petrol made its way into the well.
