THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Nair Service Society (NSS) has announced the decision to escalate protests against AN Shamseer, the Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The NSS is planning to take further steps in response to Speaker Shamseer’s controversial comments that offended the Hindu community, particularly his disrespectful remark concerning Lord Ganesha.
An urgent meeting of the Emergency House of Representatives and the Board of Directors is scheduled for today by NSS. The Executive Council gathering is set for 11 am, followed by the Board of Directors meeting at 11.30 am. The NSS is firm in its demand for a formal apology from the Speaker regarding his statement. The outcome of today’s meeting will determine the course of additional protests that may be organized.
Among the topics on the agenda is the discussion of a legal case registered by the Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment police against participants of the Namajapa yathra (a peaceful mantra chanting procession). This procession was carried out as part of the NSS’s observance of a faith protection day.
Furthermore, the decision of whether to collaborate with other organizations in the ongoing protest movement will also be deliberated. The NSS has also placed a demand for the Chief Minister to clarify his stance on this matter.
In relation to the legal case, the NSS Vice President M Sangeeth Kumar has submitted a petition to the High Court requesting the dismissal of charges against the participants of the Namajapa procession. The petition will be heard by Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan on Monday.
