IDUKKI: In a recent development, two individuals identified as Desin and Dinesh, residents of Rajakkad, have been taken into custody on charges of engaging in animal poaching. Police have seized country-made guns from the suspects.
The arrests took place last night within the Bodimettu forest region, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to curb illegal hunting. The forest department guards, prompted by the sound of gunshots, initiated an inspection of the region.
Forest guards who were actively patrolling the vicinity were quick to respond, tracking the source of the gunshots from Pooppara to Bodimettu. During their search, the suspects were discovered within the area. In an attempt to evade capture, the accused individuals noticed the presence of the forest guards as they were about to board an auto-rickshaw.
Their immediate response was an escape attempt in the auto, which was promptly pursued and halted by the forest department team. Upon investigation of the vehicle, country-made guns were found in their possession, alongside traces of animal blood stains and fur that aroused further suspicion.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to local law enforcement by the forest guards. The authorities have taken the accused individuals into police custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into their alleged involvement in illegal wildlife hunting.
