THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government is facing allegations of making appointments within the Water Authority also through backdoors. Specifically, appointments for the temporary position of Meter Reader in the Water Authority department have been consistently carried out without adhering to the norms of the employment exchange. Shockingly, over the course of three years, a total of 895 individuals have been appointed to this post .
Furthermore, serious concerns have arisen regarding the alleged favoritism shown in the selection process, with claims that individuals lacking technical qualifications have been appointed to the post.
The department also conducts contract-based recruitment via the Kudumbashree program. It is important to note that the responsibility for temporary and contract-based recruitment within the department lies with the Employment Exchange department. Numerous individuals possessing the necessary technical skills are registered and awaiting recruitment through employment exchanges.
Despite the existence of Public Service Commission (PSC) rank lists, the state government has refrained from conducting any recruitments from them. The appointments are marred by accusations of political interference, causing concern about transparency and meritocracy. Additionally, it has been alleged that various departments still have vacant positions despite the presence of PSC lists. This situation has fueled suspicions that the government is choosing to ignore the qualified candidates listed in favor of party-affiliated individuals, promoting nepotism and favoritism.
Simultaneously, during the current academic year, nearly eight thousand temporary appointments have been carried out within schools under the Public Education Department in the state. Strikingly, these appointments were made without involving the employment exchanges. Despite eligible candidates being registered with the employment exchanges, schools have not sought the employment exchange’s list of potential candidates.
There are complaints that appointments in schools were made on the basis of political interests and recommendations.
