Thiruvananthapuram: Congress party has made it clear that it would not raise the anti-Hindu remarks of Speaker, AN Shamseer, in the Legislative Assembly. The decision was taken at the party’s parliamentary party meeting. The Congress does not want to keep the discussions on the issue continuing.
The Congress party believes that if the discussion on the Speaker’s anti-Hindu remarks is kept alive, then the party might be portrayed as hounding the Speaker, AN Shamseer, who is from the Muslim community. The party fears that this will alienate the Muslim community from Congress and it would lead to a setback in the coming Lok Sabha Elections.
Moreover, the Congress believes that the Left Front is using the protest against AN Shamseer as a way to consolidate the Muslim votes in favor of the leftist camp. This has led to the Congress decision not to raise the anti-Hindu remarks of the Speaker in the Assembly.
The Speaker, AN Shamseer, had said that Lord Ganapathi and holy Puranas of Hindus are myths and are a hindrance to the progress of society. However, he kept silent on the beliefs of other religions and specifically targeted the Hindu community. The communist party and the Speaker are adamant that they will not apologize to the Hindu community.
It is to be noted that with the Congress decision to go silent on the anti-Hindu remarks, there will be on one to raise voice against Hindu bashing in the Assembly made by the Speaker himself.
