THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Lokayukta Three-Member Bench to Hear Allegations of Fund Misappropriation in Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Today. Today, a petition claiming the misallocation of funds within the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund is scheduled for a hearing. A panel of three members from the Lokayukta will preside over the proceedings. The petitioner, RS Sasikumar, who filed the complaint, is awaiting consideration today.
Representing the petitioner is Advocate George Poonthottam, while Advocate Shaji, the Director General of Prosecution, is set to represent the Government’s side.
The allegation presented to the Lokayukta pertains to the alleged favoritism in granting funds from the Chief Minister’s relief fund to certain political figures.
Earlier, the court had dismissed a plea from RS Sasikumar, which questioned the transfer of the case to the Lokayukta Full Bench. The basis for the dismissal was the lack of comprehensive explanatory details needed to assess the complaint.
Following a thorough examination of the arguments, a division bench, comprised of Chief Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai and Justice VG Arun, deferred the final judgment to a three-judge bench.
The case centers on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the ministers who served during the first tenure of the Pinarayi government.
The complaint lodged by Sasikumar brings into question the allocation of Rs 25 lakh to the family of NCP leader Uzhavoor Vijayan, Rs 8 lakh to the family of the late MLA KK Ramachandran, and Rs 20 lakh to the family of a civil police officer who lost life in an accident involving Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s pilot vehicle.
