New Delhi: BJP National President Amit Shah has announced the name of Thushar Vellapally to contest against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad. He is the President of Bhart Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS), a constituent of NDA in Kerala, and son of SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellapally Natesan.

According to the seat sharing agreement between BJP and BDJS, Wayanad was given to the latter before Rahul Gandhi’s candidature was announced.

Thushar Vellapally had earlier said that BDJS was willing to offer its seat to BJP to take on Rahul Gandhi. However, Thushar’s candidature was announced after Amit Shah decided not to take the BDJS seat.

Thushar Vellapally comes from the strong Ezhava community of Kerala. His father, Vellapally Natesan, is the general secretary of SNDP Yogam which is an organization working for the well-being of the community.

Rahul Gandhi, fearing a backlash in Amethi, had announced his candidature from Wayanad yesterday after a week long indecision.
