Kochi: The Kerala High Court has requested the state government provide an explanation in response to a petition filed seeking the annulment of the 2022 state film awards. Additionally, the court has directed the inclusion of Ranjith, Chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, as part of the ongoing proceedings. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for Friday, with a stipulated timeframe for the government to furnish its response.
Lijeesh Mullerzhath, the director of the film “Aakaashathinu Thazhe,” initiated the petition in the High Court. Lijeesh’s plea alleges that the chairman of the award jury unduly influenced the award decision-making process.
Furthermore, the petition requests the court instruct the state’s chief of police to launch an investigation in the event of a prior complaint that called for an inquiry but received no action. The matter was deliberated upon by a bench led by Justice PV Kunhikrishnan.
