Kochi : A startling discovery was made at Nedumbassery Airport as authorities found a significant quantity of gold, worth approximately Rs. 85 lakh, abandoned inside the lavatory of a flight arriving from Abu Dhabi.
The gold, weighing a substantial 1709 grams, was found in a paste-like form, carefully concealed within a packet. Customs authorities have initiated an inquiry to determine the origin and intended destination of the metal.
This discovery follows a recent incident in which customs officials seized gold worth Rs. 50 lakh from a passenger at Nedumbassery Airport. The individual, identified as Niyas and hailing from Malappuram, had arrived from Jeddah on a Saudi Airlines flight. The gold, concealed in the form of a capsule within the passenger’s body, weighed approximately 963 grams.
