Thiruvananthapuram: Senior member of the Travancore royal family Aswathi Thirunnal Gauri Lakshmi Bai said that the treasures of Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple are not showpieces and should never be taken for public display in the museum.
The treasures were offered to God by the royal family and others over the years. Ashwathi Thirunnal Gauri Lakshmi Bai said that displaying them in a tourist spot such as museum, is unacceptable. She said that to her knowledge, nowhere else in India have temple treasures or gold been put on display in museums.
“Such museums have not been seen anywhere else. Then why in Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple?” Gauri Lakshmi Bai clarified that what she said was her personal opinion.
The BJP also announced the other day that it will oppose the move to display the treasures of Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple in a museum. AP Anil Kumar and Kadakampally Surendran in the Assembly had presented the proposal to display the treasures of Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple in a museum.
