Thiruvananthapuram: Former Governor of Mizoram and senior RSS leader, Kummanam Rajasekharan, has slammed the controversial statement of former Devaswom Minister, Kadakampally Surendran, and Congress MLA, AP Anil Kumar, regarding the wealth of Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. Kummanam said that the political leaders are trying to commercialize the temple.
The former Devaswom Minister, Kadakampally Surendran, and Congress leader, AP Anil Kumar, had said that all the priceless wealth of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple must be put in museums so that it will fetch revenue to the government.
Kummanam said that their statements show their greedy capitalist mentality and called for immediate steps to protect the wealth of the temple. He also said that Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple is not a tourist place or a commercial space. The treasures kept in the vaults of the temple are the offerings by the devotees to the Lord Padmanabhaswamy.
He added that some people have been eyeing these treasures for some time as a means to make financial gains. Their move against the wealth stored at the temple comes after the government failed many times to take over the administration of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
A few days back a private helicopter flew over the temple five times. It had caused panic and anxiety among the devotees.
Kummanam Rajasekharan said that the higher officials have not undertaken any form of investigation to probe the aim of those who flew the helicopter and the purpose of the flight.
He said that now the attention has been diverted to the treasures stored in the temple vaults. The former Governor demanded that the security of the temple must be strengthened and steps must be taken to protect the temple treasures by maintaining constant vigil.
