Kannur: In a bid to enhance its earnings, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has introduced a distinctive tour opportunity tailored for school students during the festive season of Onam. The KSRTC’s Budget Tourism Kannur District Cell has organised one-day excursions for schools, offering these excursions at specially discounted rates.
Pioneering this initiative, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Kunjimangalam Higher Secondary School embarked on the inaugural journey. A group of 45 students participated in this excursion. The students were treated to visits to the ‘Paithalmala’ hill station and the captivating Ezharakkund waterfall, all under the thematic banner of ‘Mazhaye Ariyam Prakritiye Ariyam’ (Discover the Rain, Discover Nature). This innovative approach exposes children to various locations of educational importance.
KSRTC has embarked on this initiative of designing distinct travel packages as a strategic response to declining revenue. The primary objective behind these novel packages is to bolster the overall revenue figures. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that the workforce is gearing up for a potential strike, prompted by the non-receipt of July month’s salaries. A unified protest is scheduled for the 26th of this month, with employees also voicing demands such as the equitable distribution of Onam benefits and the facilitation of transfers.
