New Delhi: Senior BJP leader and Kerala-in charge, Prakash Javadekar, demanded that central agencies must probe into allegation that a private company Cochin Mineral and Rutile Limited (CMRL), paid Rs. 95 crores to various political leaders in Kerala. The company allegedly paid Chief Minister’s daughter, Veena Vijayan, and her firm, Exalogic Solution.
Prakash Javadekar also slammed Kerala’s Opposition Leader, VD Satheesan, for diluting the issue by saying that it is normal to take money from business houses.
The BJP leader said that politicians collect funds for the party and deposit in party accounts and not in private accounts.
The Congress party is also in a fix concerning the scam because the names of several of its senior leaders have figured on the list of payees by the company. Names like Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala, and Kunhalikutty are on the list, which has put the Congress on the back-foot.
Javadekar accused the political leaders of receiving money to overlook the violations done by CMRL in pollution and other matters.
The senior BJP leader also mentioned that one of the recipients of the company’s money was Veena Vijayan, daughter of Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan. She is found to have received Rs.1.7 crores for doing nothing.
Reports say that Veena Vijayan and her company, Exalogic, had signed an agreement to provide IT related services to CMRL. However, there is no evidence that her company had provided the promised service. Yet CMRL paid Veena Vijayan monthly payments for doing nothing.
The New Delhi bench of the Income Tax Interim Settlement Board ruled that the money was given to Veena Vijayan considering the relationship with a ‘prominent person’ pointing out that high-level corruption has been conducted at the highest level of Kerala government.
