Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Muhammad Khan sought details on the monthly payment controversy involving Veena Vijayan. The intervention of the Governor will be after examining the legal aspects of the findings of the Income Tax Department. After assessing the details, the Governor will seek an explanation from the Chief Minister on the monthly payment controversy.
While responding to the media, the governor had stated on Sunday that the monthly payment controversy is serious. After this, he asked for details related to the controversy. It is reported that the governor’s office is already investigating these matters.
The Governor will take action after examining the findings of the Income Tax Department, the documents related to these and the statements of the CMRL company officials. The Governor will also examine the legal aspects regarding this, as it is a finding of the Income Tax Settlement Interim Board.
The directors of CMRL have given a statement that they have given monthly payment considering their relationship with a prominent person. Apart from being the owner of Exalogic, Veena Vijayan is the daughter of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and wife of Minister Mohammad Riyas.
Legal experts are of the opinion that since the father and husband come under the list of public servants, there are provisions for vigilance to file a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The current finding constitutes an offense under the Money Laundering Act, 2002. After examining all the legal aspects related to this, the Governor will decide whether to seek an explanation from the Chief Minister or not.
