Thiruvananthapuram: “The entire votes are not in the hands of community leaders but they also hold votes,” says CPI(M) party secretary MV Govindan mockingly in response to a question on why Puthupally LDF candidate Jaick C Thomas visited G Sukumaran Nair. Govindan was addressing the media in Thiruvananthapuram. He further criticized NSS by saying that NSS claims to maintain equal stance with all parties but it is not so.
Party secretary MV Govindan said that NSS’s equanimous stance has changed many times. Govindan explained that there is nothing wrong in Puthupally left candidate meeting the NSS general secretary. Meanwhile, MV Govindan refused to respond to questions on the monthly payment controversy.
Though CPI(M) is trying to indirectly criticize NSS, they are thinking of ways to gather maximum communal votes in Puthupally. Even though CPI(M) is targeting Nair community votes in Puthupally, they are also worried that the Myth controversy will lead to loss of communal votes. It was in this situation that the party secretary came forward to justify the visit of left candidate Jaick C Thomas to the NSS headquarters. MV Govindan said that CPI(M) has no quarrel with anyone, no conflict with NSS, and candidate’s visit should be considered as a respect to democracy. He did not go to beg for votes or ask for a boon but to seek votes as the LDF candidate, says Govindan.
MV Govindan mocks by saying that though CPI(M) is a progressive party, it has to solicit votes from people who are not so progressive. But when asked about the monthly payment controversy and Chief Minister’s response to the issue, Govindan maintained silence and refused to answer to anymore question from the media.
