Palakkad: Minister of Electricity, K Krishnankutty, said that the government is mulling to raise the electricity charges if there is not enough rainfall. He added that there is a shortage of water in the dams.
The Minister clarified that no decision has been taken yet about increasing the electricity charges. The final decision will be made in tomorrow’s electricity board meeting.
Minister K Krishnankutty said that if there is rainfall then there is no need for a hike in charges. However, if the rain fails then charges must be raised. The electricity can be given only at the price that it is bought. He also said that actions are being taken not to put burden on the consumers as much as possible.
As there is not enough water in the dams, extra electricity must be purchased, said the minister. He said that the decision on what price electricity must be bought will be taken during the meeting on Wednesday.
Following this, the decision to increase the price will be taken after the evaluation of the situation by the Electricity Regulatory Commission.
