Thiruvananthapuram: The communist government in Kerala is facing a huge public outcry after High Court appointed Amicus Curiae reported that the 2018 floods were caused by government lapse in handling the opening the dams and issuing warnings. Amicus curiae has also demanded a judicial probe into the matter.
The BJP State leadership has demanded that the Chief Minister Pinnarayi Vijayan and Electricity Minister M. M. Mani be charged with murder for the death of around 500 human lives in the State.
Former Mizoram Governor and Thiruvananthapuram constituency, Kummanam Rajasekharan, said that according to amicus curiae there was lapse in giving warnings before and also after the dams were opened. Kummanam blamed the Electricity Minister for the tragedy saying that it was his stubbornness and ignorance which led to the tragedy.
BJP State President Sreedharan Pillai also attacked the government and demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister and charges of murder be made against the officers and also the Electricity Minister for their lapse.
The BJP leaders said that during the floods, the left government was busy attacking the BJP government and Central forces who were ready to help the people. At one time the Communist State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that Army will indulge in rape of women if allowed to operate freely in the relief efforts.
Sreedharan Pillai said that the government accused the central government in a bid to divert the attention of the people away from the state government’s lapse.
