Kottayam: Lijin Lal, the designated candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Puthuppally by-election, officially submitted his nomination documents at the Pampady Block Development Office (BDO) in the Pallickathodu on Thursday.
The nomination process was preceded by an impressive roadshow that commenced from Pampady, culminating in Lal’s arrival at Pallickathodu. Prominent BJP figures, including Union Minister V Muraleedharan, were actively involved in the 8-kilometre-long roadshow.
On the same day, Chandy Oommen, the nominee from the United Democratic Front (UDF), also filed his nomination papers at Pallickathodu. In contrast, Jaick C Thomas of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) candidate submitted his nomination papers at the Kottayam Revenue Divisional Office (RDO) a day earlier.
It’s noteworthy that both the Kottayam RDO and the Pampady BDO are located outside the geographical bounds of the Puthuppally constituency. The role of the returning officer for the upcoming bypoll is held by Kottayam RDO Vinod Rajan. As per the election schedule, the deadline for submitting nomination papers for the Puthuppally by-election is set for August 17.
