Ernakulam: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a preliminary inquiry into the controversy surrounding monthly payments involving Veena Vijayan, the daughter of the Chief Minister of Kerala. The scope of the investigation will encompass Veena Vijayan and the Exalogic Company. The probe commences with the examination of complaints lodged at the Kochi ED office regarding the monthly payment matter.
The applicability of the Black Money Act to this case will be determined, and the investigation will also scrutinise individuals and entities outlined in the Income Tax Department’s Interim Settlement Board ruling.
Meanwhile, K Surendran, the Kerala state president of the BJP, has alleged that the Chief Minister manipulated federal regulations to favour mining firms. The CPI (M) contends that the agreements are legally sound. Questions have been raised about the legality of funds in Veena’s account and have prompted demands for clarification.
Surendran has openly claimed that the Congress party is also attempting to manage the month-long dispute. He further asserted that there could be a criminal conspiracy behind the matter. He highlighted that the Chief Minister received more funds than Veena and questioned the origin of these funds. He criticised the absence of investigations by money collection agencies within Kerala and asserted that both the Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, VD Satheesan, seem to be immune to legal actions within the state.
Surendran also spoke of the BJP’s intention to request a central agency investigation from the Union government. He also ridiculed VD Satheeshan, mocking the possibility of Satheesan seeking the involvement of central agencies in the monthly payments controversy, and highlighted the opposition leader of being fake.
