Kochi: The left leaning poet and intellectual, K Sathidanandan, said that intolerance is growing in Kerala and if the left government returns to power for a third time it would result in the decimation of the left.
Satchidanandan said that coming to power for the third time in Kerala would destroy the communist party. If the left doesn’t want a repeat of what happened to the leftist government in West Bengal then let us pray the left doesn’t return to power in Kerala. Whenever a party attains power for a third constitutive term, it will naturally take on a dictatorial character.
He observed that cult of personality was seen during the Stalin era. If the Marxist party do not criticize Stalin and his policies then personality worship will rise dangerously in many forms.
The Sahitya Akademi Award winner said that there is no point in blaming any one leader for hero worship. A situation similar to this has never occurred before in Kerala.
Satchidanandan also added that a revolutionary party cannot grow in Indian political landscape. A social democratic party is what is needed for India. The left must strive to create a democratic and a social society, opined the poet.
