Kochi: The High Court has postponed considering a plea, seeking CBI probe in Dr. Vandana Das’ murder, to a later date after Onam holidays.
Dr. Vandana Das’ father had accused the police of lapse after his daughter was attacked by Sandeep while he was being treated by the lady doctor at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital. He said that the police are trying to cover up their lapse in the case.
He said that if the police admit to its failure then it would be an embarrassment to the entire police force. Dr. Vandana’s father also said that if the police had intervened correctly, his daughter would have been still living.
Dr. Vandana sustained 16 injuries in the attack said the plea. The lady doctor was working at the Taluk Hospital when the police brought Sandeep in custody to be treated for a wound on his leg. While Dr. Vandana was attending to the wound, Sandeep, attacked her with a scissor and stabbed her several times. This happened while the police were present at the scene.
The gruesome murder of Dr. Vandana Das sent a shockwave across the state and especially among the health workers in Kerala. Statewide protests were conducted demanding stringent laws to protect the health workers and condemning the murder of the lady doctor.
