Thiruvananthapuram: The crisis in the distribution of Onam-kits continues in the state. On the eve of Onam, only around half a lakh kits have been distributed so far. Till last night the government was able to distribute 62,231 kits. Around 3 lakh Onam kits are in the process of packing.
The government had earlier announced that Onam-kits would be distributed to those holding yellow ration cards. The number of consumers who hold yellow cards in the state is 5,87,691. The financial crisis in the state had forced the government to distribute kits only to yellow card holders. But that too is in crisis.
Till now, only ten percent of the kits have been distributed and the Supplyco is trying to solve the distribution crisis. Attempts are made to approach other companies, instead of Milma, to supply ‘payasam’ mix. The Supplyco has given orders to make the proceedings as fast as possible. Meanwhile, the Food Minister’s assurance to supply all ration shops with kits by today evening will not be fulfilled.
The government had earlier said that kits would be supplied to all ration shops y yesterday afternoon. However, the lack of availability of ‘payasam’ mix and curry powders put the distribution into a crisis. The government has ordered to buy these products from other companies and complete the packaging as soon as possible.
