Kozhikode: The victim of a surgery lapse, in which a scissor was left in her stomach during cesarean surgery, Harshina, has entered 100th day of protest seeking justice. Harshina wants action against those responsible for her condition and has been protesting in front of the Kozhikode Medical College for the last hundred days.
The protest committee chairman, Dinesh Perumanna, and convener, Mustafa Palazhi, had earlier said that a hunger strike will be taken today, which happens to be ‘Thiruvonam’.
Harshina said that she trusts the police investigation but added that her protest will continue till the police submit the charge sheet.
On November 30, 2017, Harshina was subjected to cesarean surgery at the Kozhikode Medical College hospital. She accuses that during the operation the surgical equipment got lodged in her stomach.
Two investigation committees, constituted by the Health Minister, reported that they could not verify that the scissor was lodged in Harshina’s stomach during the operation at Kozhikode Medical College hospital. Following that, an announcement was made that an internally committee would be appointed for detailed investigation. However, that investigation did not take off. This prompted Harshina to begin her protest for justice front of the Medical College.
Harshina had demanded Rs.50 lakhs as compensation for her ordeal. She said that she came to know that a scissor was lodged in her stomach only on September 17, 2022. She realized that the health issues she has been suffering all that time was because of the scissor being inside her stomach.
She had submitted many complaints and staged many protests seeking justice. When she conducted a seven-day protest, the Health Minister, Veena George, intervened in the matter. Following this, Harshina withdrew from the protest. She had stopped her protest, at that time, after the Health Minister gave assurance that Harshina would get justice.
