Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rainfall was witnessed in many parts of Kerala after monsoon rains failed during the months of June and July. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that rain will continue for five days in the state. Meanwhile, Yellow Alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram district and the shutters of Aruvikkara dam were raised on account of incessant rainfall. Two shutters were raised by 30 cms.
Reports say that the shutters of Moozhiyar and Maniyar dams located in Pathanamthitta district were also raised. This could result in the water level rising in Pamba and Kakkad rivers. People living on the banks are advised to be on alert following the opening of shutters of these dams.
The IMD says that there is a possibility of a depression developing in the Bay of Bengal which could turn in to a cyclone within two days.
