Kuttanadu: Deep fissures have fallen within the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Alappuzha district after the CPI decided to give membership to those who have abandoned ties with the CPI(M). There exists a history of rift between the two communist parties and both have come to loggerheads at many occasions. 222 members, including those who had held CPI(M) membership for the past forty years have decided to quit the party. It is believed that the CPI(M) will lose its clout in the region once these members switch to the CPI.
During a CPI(M) meeting in Kuttanadu concerning the price of rice, the CPI(M) District Secretary, R Nassar, had severely criticized Food and Civil Supplies Minister, GR Anil, who belongs to the CPI party. The CPI District Secretary came out with a reply against CPI(M) Secretary’s criticism immediately.
The divergent view points between the two parties became evident in the issue of price of rice.
It is also believed that the CPI will publish the list of all those who will leave CPI(M) and join CPI. The CPI Kuttanadu Mandalam Committee is waiting for the district committee’s decision to provide membership to those who join the party.
