Kozhikode: The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) has raised objection against the police move to arrest doctors and other medical practitioners for lapse in surgery at Kozhikode Medical College where a scissor was left behind in a patient’s stomach after cesarean operation. The victim, Harshina, suffered for five years without knowing that the scissor was lodged in her stomach. She began protesting in front of the Kozhikode Medical College seeking justice for her ordeal.
However, the KGMCTA said that there is no evidence that the surgical instrument got lodged in the stomach at the Kozhikode Medical College. The Medical Board had also come to this conclusion.
The doctors’ union said that going forward with the case against doctors and nurses is a violation of the Supreme Court’s verdict. The KGMCTA said that they will resort to legal measure against this.
The KGMCTA also added that labeling doctors as culprits and tarnishing their image will not be accepted. The doctors’ union also said that the organization will go to any extend both legally and organizationally against this.
