Thiruvananthapuram: SFI leaders of the Government Sanskrit College in Thiruvananthapuram assaulted the son of a prominent CPI(M) leader. Adarsh, the son of Marayamuttam S. Bindu, who serves as the Vice President of Perungadavila Panchayat, suffered severe injuries, including a broken jaw, during the attack.
Adarsh was beaten because he decided to withdraw his participation in the sack race event during the Onam celebrations arranged by the SFI at the college. SFI leaders followed Adarsh to the classroom. They used a wooden object to strike him on the face before forcibly taking him out of the classroom, making him sit on a chair, and subjecting him to a brutal beating.
The incident occurred on the evening of the 24th. Adarsh sought medical treatment after the incident. After leaving hospital, Adarsh lodged a complaint against the SFI leaders at the cantonment police station. In connection with the incident, a case was registered against individuals named Naseem from Ambalamukku, Jithu from Nellimoodu, and Sachin from Karamana. According to the police, there were more than ten people who assaulted Adarsh but the identities of the remaining suspects could not be ascertained.
Adarsh has expressed his decision to discontinue his college studies. According to him, the SFI leaders who attacked him had passed out of college 5 years back, but often come to the campus. Adarsh noted that during college events and celebrations, it is these leaders who wield control, while the teachers often remain passive observers.
