KANNUR: Three more cases of ‘Melioidosis’ have been confirmed in Kannur district. Melioidosis is an illness caused by the bacterium B, which resides in soil and sewage water.
All three cases were reported from the Korom area of Payyannur. Initially, a 12-year-old boy and a young man were diagnosed with the disease. Now, three more individuals have presented symptoms consistent with Melioidosis, and samples from them have been sent for testing. It will take approximately one week to obtain the test results. Concern has gripped the residents of Korom village.
Notably, the two individuals initially diagnosed with the disease are still receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangalore.
Individuals displaying symptoms were examined at Pazhayangadi Taluk Hospital, and the Health Department strongly advises those with symptoms to undergo testing.
