Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Congress (B), a party in the LDF, reacted strongly against the CPI(M)’s decision to take over the chairmanship of Kerala State Welfare Corporation for Forward Communities(KSWCFC), which belonged to Kerala Congress(B). The Kerala Congress(B) was given the Chairmanship of the corporation after the party was denied a minister post in the LDF government.
However, just half way through the tenure, the CPI(M) suddenly decided to take over the Chairmanship of the corporation held by Kerala Congress (B) leader, KG Premjith. The Chief Minister’s General Administration Department issued a notification last night appointing CPI(M) nominee M Rajagopalan Nair as the new Chairman of KSWCFC.
However, Kerala Congress(B) leader, KB Ganesh Kumar MLA, protested against the move strongly. The CPI(M) had not informed the leaders of Kerala Congress(B) or its leader KB Ganesh Kumar about the decision.
Ganesh Kumar spoke with Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan and also shot a letter to the convener of LDF and made his displeasure public against the CPI(M)’s move.
However, the government seems to have bowed down to the pressure tactics of the Kerala Congress(B) leader and has informed that the decision will be withdrawn and a new notification will be issued. Ganesh Kumar MLA told the media that it was a technical error by the General Administration Department.
The Chairmanship of the KSWCFC was given to Ganesh Kumar’s father, Balakrishnan Pilla, after Kerala Congress(B) was denied a minister post. His father also enjoyed Cabinet rank. However, after the death of Balakrishnan Pilla the Chairmanship was passed on to the party’s nominee Premjith.
It is believed that CPI(M) is unhappy with KB Ganesh Kumar’s public criticism of the LDF government lately. When his criticisms went above the limits, the party decided to take over the Chairman post offered to Kerala Congress(B). However, Ganesh Kumar’s strong protest prompted the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter and quickly revoke the communist party’s decision.
