Thrissur: Police has caught a man in possession of gold ornaments worn by two sisters, who were allegedly attacked and burned to death by the accused. The deceased were Thankam (70) and Padmini (72). They were found burned at their home yesterday evening, according to a report. The gold jewelry was recovered from inside the underwear worn by the accused, Manikandan, a native of Pattambi.
Manikandan was first caught by the locals residents after they heard of loud screaming and seeing smoke from the house of the victims. When the locals entered the house they found Thankam and Padmini consumed by the fire and Manikandan, who was trying to escape. He was caught by the residents and handed over to the police.
The police investigation found blood stains on the walls and the gas cylinder was found opened. The police say the accused attacked and killed the sisters who were living alone in two adjacent houses. Then he set them on fire.
According to the report, Manikandan also had wounds on his face and hands when he was taken into custody. During the medical check-up, the doctor discovered gold ornaments hidden inside his underwear. Manikandan is a habitual offender and cases have been filed against him for various thefts and for misbehaving with women, said the report.
