THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, O Abdullah, criticized 8-year-old Mohammed Yahiya for participating in the ‘Gokulashtami’ procession at Kozhikode. Abdullah stated that it is not right for Mohammed Yahiya to participate in the procession and dress up as Sri Krishna, which was oraganised by Balagokuklam.
Abdullah’s harsh criticism comes at a time when many have admired Mohammed Yahiya and his parents as symbols of religious brotherhood and secularism. ‘It goes against our Muslim religious beliefs,’ he said during a debate on Janam TV.
Yahia dressed up as Unni Krishna to participate in the Sobhayatra organized by Balagokulam in Kozhikode. Mohammad Yahia is the eldest son of Saneej and Rubia, natives of Thalassery living in Kozhikode. The parents supported the wish of young Mohammed Yahiya.
It is noteworthy that the 8-year-old boy attended the procession in a wheelchair with the permission of his parents.
Yahia’s mother made the makeup for him to participate in the procession. Several people from around the world have praised Mohammed Yahiya and his family.
