THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ration traders in Kerala are set to go on strike starting tomorrow. It has been confirmed that there will be no change in the strike announced for September 11, as the state government has not accepted the demands put forth by the ration traders to voice their protest.
The traders’ association stated to the media that the government is disregarding their demands despite receiving several letters outlining various grievances. The discussion with the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, GR Anil, proved vain. The association pointed out that the government claims it cannot accept these demands due to a severe financial crisis. However, the government is not effectively regulating unnecessary expenditures by ministers and other ruling party leaders.
The demands of the Kerala Retail Ration Dealers’ Association include revising the wage package implemented in 2018, implementing the High Court verdict on kit commission, and permanently addressing the Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) system fault. The association has also announced its intention to intensify the strike if the government’s response is delayed.
