THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chandy Oommen, the son of the late MLA and former Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, emerged victorious in the recent by-election for the Puthupally constituency and is set to be sworn in as an MLA today.
Yesterday, on Sunday morning, Chandy Oommen arrived in Thiruvananthapuram. He took a moment to reflect on the memories of his father and paid his respects at the Chenkal Maheswaram Sri Sivaparvathi Temple.
A special Pooja ceremony was conducted in honor of the newly elected MLA as part of the auspicious Makayiram (star sign) day’s rituals. Chandy Oommen then performed ‘Thulabharam’ with sugar, under the guidance of temple priests Swami Maheshwarananda Saraswati and Kumar Maheshwaram, to mark his election victory.
He expressed that his father had a longstanding connection with the temple and its abbot.
Even before filing his nomination for Puthuppally, Chandy sought the approval and blessings of the temple abbot. Chandy Oommen shared that he had a deep desire to visit the temple before taking his oath as an MLA.
