Kalpetta: NDA candidate and BDJS leader, Thushar Vellappally, has filed a complaint to the Election Commission against Rahul Gandhi for openly asking for votes in his favour even while the polling was going on. The complainant argues that this is violation of the moral code of conduct.
NDA media coordinator and chief election agent of Vellappally said, “I have filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi that he has violated the code of conduct of this constituency (Wayanad). As you are aware the election campaigning ended at 5 pm on April 21. But he has tweeted today morning stating that want NYAY for every Indian. But it is a clear cut violation of the code of conduct. That is why I have filed this complaint before the Election Commissioner. Appropriate action may be taken as soon as possible.
Rahul Gandhi’s tweet came out at 9.36 am when the polling in Kerala was in full swing. In the tweet the Congress President is openly garnering for votes in the name of NYAY. NYAY is Rahul Gandhi’s election promise of providing Rs. 72,000 each year for every poor family.
Thushar Vellappally, the leader of BDJS, an ally of BJP, and son of the powerful SNDP community leader Vellappally Nateshan, has been active in exposing Rahul Gandhi’s candidature in Wayanad. Earier, Thushar complained that Rahul Gandhi held multiple passports and this is not mentioned in the nomination papers.
BDJS is contesting from 4 seats in Kerala and expected to make huge gains in the elections.
Rahul Gandhi is contesting from two seats, Amethi and Wayanad. Though the Congress President claims that he chose Wayanad to give the message that his party gave importance to South India, the BJP is accusing him of running away from Amethi. The BJP is also saying that the Congress leader deliberately chose a minority dominant constituency for demonstrating minority appeasement.
