Bengaluru: A Muslim woman from Karnataka approached Sullia Police Station to lodge a complaint against her husband, Abdul Rashid, a resident of Thrissur. She filed a complaint saying that her husband invoked triple talaq and divorced her through WhatsApp.
The woman is a resident of Dakshina Kannada district and the couple got married seven years ago. They have two daughters in the wedlock. The husband, who works abroad, had taken his wife there after marriage. When the woman got pregnant for the second time, he had sent her back home.
The police informed that they are conducting a detailed investigation into the matter. Invoking triple talaq is illegal in Bharat since August 1, 2019. According to the law triple talaq in any form whether spoken, written, or by electronic means is illegal and void. The husband could get jail term up to three years for violation.
