Kozhikode: In a significant development, authorities in Kozhikode have announced the easing of strict restrictions imposed on containment zones in the wake of Nipah virus regulation. The decision comes as a result of successful contact tracing efforts and the absence of new positive cases in recent tests.
The affected areas include multiple wards in Ayancheri Grama Panchayat, Maruthonkara Grama Panchayat, Tiruvallur Grama Panchayat, Kuttiadi grama Panchayath, Kayakkody Grama Panchayat, and Kavilumpara Grama Panchayat, as well as specific wards in Changaroth Panchayat and Thanneerpanthal Town.
According to the official order, markets within the containment zones will now be allowed to operate until 8 p.m., following strict Nipah protocol guidelines. Banks can extend their working hours until 2 p.m. with the condition of adhering to Nipah protocol measures, including the use of masks and sanitizers, maintaining social distancing, and controlling crowds. However, other restrictions will remain in place until further notice.
The decision to relax restrictions was made possible due to the diligent efforts of health authorities and the successful tracing of all contacts of Nipah-positive individuals, as well as the absence of new positive cases in recent tests.
