THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former minister and CPI(M) leader A.C. Moideen has informed the officers of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that he will not appear before the ED today in connection with the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam case.
In an email, Moideen conveyed to the ED that he will not be available to appear before them for questioning today and tomorrow. He mentioned that he needs to attend an orientation class organized for MLAs.
Reportedly, his relatives have informed that Moideen began his journey to Thiruvananthapuram for the class yesterday. It is also reported that Moideen had initially planned to appear before the ED after meeting his lawyer in Kochi. However, he arrived in Thiruvananthapuram this morning for the orientation class.
The ED raids on the Thrissur Service Cooperative Bank and Ayyanthole Service Co-operative Bank concluded early this morning. The raid commenced yesterday morning and lasted for more than 15 hours.
These ED raids were conducted after it was discovered that Satheesh, the main accused in the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam case, had engaged in benami transactions in these banks.
It is noteworthy that the ED reported to the Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court that Satheesh Kumar P., who was arrested in connection with the multi-crore Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam, was a benami of a former MP, a sitting MLA, and high-ranking police officers.
