Thiruvananthapuram: 40 families joined the BJP under the leadership of the Thiruvananthapuram district president Peroorkada Ravi of the Dalit Congress.
District President Peroorkada Ravi, Vice Presidents Krishna Kumar and Jayaprakash, Vattiyoorkavu Block President Surendran, District Committee Members R. Kamalamani, V. Sindhu, Nedumangad Sunilkumar, Vattiyoorkavu block president Peroorkada Vasanthi, Mahila Congress former block president Jayashree, Kilimanoor block president Chandrika and Muttathara Jayakumar have joined the BJP.
They have aligned themselves with the BJP due to their interest in the widely popular initiatives undertaken by the Narendra Modi government aimed at benefiting the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes. The leaders who joined BJP also expressed grievances about being overlooked despite their four-decade-long dedication to the Congress and Dalit Congress.
Dalit Congress leaders joined the BJP at a function held at Tagore Theater premises in Thiruvananthapuram.
The families had participated in the PM Vishwakarma Project program organized on Vishwakarma Jayanti along with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. District President VV Rajesh mentioned that as the public welfare initiatives of the Narendra Modi government reach a broader spectrum of the population, thousands of individuals from backward and scheduled caste groups are expected to align with the BJP.
