Kozhikode: Current Grand Mufti of India, Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musliyar said that Mujahids and Jamaat-e-Islami followers are not Muslims in a function at Malappuram.
His argument was that followers of Mujahid and Jamaat-e-Islami believe that Prophet Muhammad was a normal human being and that after his death his body decomposed. Those who believe in such a thing cannot be considered as Muslims. They cannot be called as Muslims, he said.
Kanthapuram observed that Mujahids believe that the prophet lived as an ordinary human being and propagates the idea that his dead body was buried after death. Kanthapuram also observed that according to Mujahids, the Prophet Muhammad’s body needed to be buried after his death to avoid any problem to others when it began to get decomposed.
He said that Mujahids hold this belief and Jamaat-e-Islami in their publications also shares similar views.
Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musliyar’s statement has raised strong criticisms. Organizations including ISM have come forward demanding that the Grand Mufti withdraw his irresponsible statement saying that Mujahid and Jamaat-e-Islami are not Muslims.
Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musliyar is the tenth and current Grand Mufti of India. He is also the General Secretary of All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama.
