Kochi: A Sub Inspector in Kottayam was suspended for allegedly aiding the banned terrorist outfit, Popular Front of India (PFI). The suspended officer, P S Rijumon, held the rank of Grade SI at the Kottayam Cyber Police Station. This action comes in response to findings by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which indicate that SI Rijumon provided highly sensitive information to individuals associated with the PFI. Acting in accordance with NIA directives, Ernakulam Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) ordered the suspension of SI Rijumon.
The Kottayam Cyber Police Station serves as a hub for safeguarding sensitive information under the jurisdiction of the District Police Headquarters. SI Rijumon, while still in service, allegedly leaked confidential data related to special investigation team operations connected to the banned organisation, PFI. The NIA investigation has revealed that Rijumon transmitted this information to PFI member Tarish Rehman. Rijumon had been under NIA surveillance for the past several days.
Moreover, it has come to light that the PFI terrorists arrested recently in Chennai also had connections with Rijumon. Hailing from Thazhathangady, Kottayam, Rijumon had previously served at the Kottayam East Police Station. Despite being admitted to the Crime Branch, PS Rijumon expressed a desire to continue his association with the cyber cell.
This incident is not the first instance of Kerala police officials facing suspension due to alleged links with PFI terrorists. A previous NIA investigation report, released last year, disclosed that 873 Kerala police personnel have links with PFI. Personnel belonging to the Special Branch, Intelligence, Law and Order wings, and those tasked with the office duties of senior Kerala Police officers were among the individuals on the NIA list.
