Thrissur: After the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam has raised a huge political storm putting the CPI(M) on the defensive, complaints have risen against other cooperative banks of similar scams. Complaints are raised against Katakambal Multi Purpose Cooperative Society, which is ruled by Congress party, and also against Ayanthol Cooperative Bank. With this, people in Kerala, who have deposited their hard earned money in cooperative banks, are worried.
The complaint against Katakambal Multi Purpose Cooperative Society said that a member of the administrative council, VR Sajith, had done irregularities with the money and gold deposited with the bank. Incidentally, the bank is under Congress party’s control. Ajith had transferred the gold that were pledged at the society to other institutions.
Meanwhile, a couple from Chitilapally has raised a complaint against the Ayanthol Cooperative Bank, where the Enforcement Directorate had conducted examination. According to the couple, a Malappuram resident, Aboobacker, fled after taking a loan of Rs.1 crore in the name of the couple. The complaint also accuses that Aboobacker did the fraud with the knowledge of the bank authorities.
The couple does not own property in the vicinity of the bank. According to guidelines, the bank will issue loans only to those who own property in a given geographical area around the bank. To bypass this stipulation, a fake address of the couple was created and the loan was availed.
However, the bank has denied any knowledge of Aboobacker. The couple, Sharada and Kutykrishnan has submitted their complaint to the ED.
