Kozhikode: Educational institutes in Kozhikode have reopened today. Schools across the district have resumed regular operations, except for those located in containment zones. The decision to reopen schools comes with strict adherence to safety norms and guidelines to ensure the continued well-being of students and staff.

The Kozhikode District Collector confirmed that online classes will continue for students residing in containment areas, ensuring their education remains uninterrupted. The latest update from health authorities stated that all recent samples tested in Kozhikode district returned negative for the Nipah virus. Additionally, as of yesterday, there were no individuals considered to be in the high-risk category.

While welcoming students back to the classroom, authorities have issued a series of  instructions aimed at preventing the spread of Nipah. These guidelines are designed to safeguard the health of students, teachers, and staff members.

  1. Students and teachers must wear masks at all times within school premises to reduce the risk of transmission.
  2. Hand sanitizer stations have been set up at the entrance of every school and within classrooms. Everyone is required to sanitise their hands regularly.
  3. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, headache, sore throat, or any signs of illness should not attend school under any circumstances.
  4. Students are strongly advised against sharing food items with their peers to minimise the risk of contamination.
  5. A strict emphasis has been placed on maintaining cleanliness within school premises. This includes regular cleaning and disinfecting of common areas and classrooms.
  6. Teachers are tasked with educating students about Nipah infection and its prevention in a way that does not induce fear or anxiety.
